Caterpillar is a California based tractor company that was emerged in 1925 from the Holt Manufacturing Company and C. L. Best Tractor Company. It was then re-organized in 1986 as Delaware Corporation and was then named as Caterpillar. The headquarters of this company is located in Peoria, Illinois, United States of America.

By tracing out the history it will come forward that when the steam tractors were used in 1890’s and in early 1900s, which were tremendously heavy machines and often used to sink into the soft earth especially of farmlands! So, in order to get rid of this problem Benjamin Holt increased the size and width of the tractors, which were then seeing to be crawling like caterpillars due to which it was named so.
